February 2016
Durban
Bru?
Brai?
Ballies?
Boop?
Boot?
Bra?
Byron, Tyron, Myron and Lyron!?!
A little bit of south African vocabulary…hmmm, don’t they love the letter B? Could make up many poems with those.
My seeking for work continues here in Jon’s home country.
Let’s call this place, the end of the world. I literally (and I don’t use this word slightly like the Kardashians) went till the END OF THE WORLD. I went on most ends actually- Asia, Europe,Africa, Middle East until now to look for work- to start a life!!!
Let’s call this land, the land with Load shedding (which means no electricity), no internet and hitch hikers who will steal your car.
Our aim for work was Cape Town.
Meanwhile, I want to let you all know of what I will be skipping this February while in South Africa:
- Trinidad carnival
- Brazil carnival
- Venice carnival
- Eduardo’s Euro trip
- Vlad’s Euro trip
- Sheila’s invitation to go to Morocco and Ibiza
There were never any guarantees.
SA scared me even before taking the leap- So far, So different, Opposite traffic, Sharks and really Unclear visa/immigration rules.
For immigrants who wish to establish themselves in SA, read here:
- We found a way to get a couples visa in SA but a very costly way :1200usd that is not guaranteed to get me a work visa. Foreigners wishing to work here, especially if they are Caucasian will be…pretty ignored. Preference is given to dark skinned people and locals- no matter if you are more experienced.
After seeking advise from Fb groups, Bulgarian communities, immigration agency and forums- I received the same response.
I spent merely 3 weeks in S.A. because it wasn’t very fruitful, so I don’t have many tips:
- You Need a car. No public transport exists there.
- Don’t go downtown even if you want to visit all galleries and museums. It’s dangerous.
- You will like it if you enjoy wild life.
